Frequently Asked Questions

When did you start quilting?

I made my first quilt when I started sewing in 2011, but I didn't consider myself a quilter until I began to learn two years later.

How did you learn to quilt?

I learned mainly off of popular quilt blogs. Some of my favourite quilt bloggers, especially for newbies, are Fresh Lemons Quilts, The Sassy Quilter, and Happy Quilting.

What sewing machine do you use?

I have a Pfaff Creative Performance and a vintage Singer Featherweight. I hope to eventually own either a sit down mid-arm machine or long arm quilting machine.

Where did you learn to free motion quilt? I want to learn, but I'm intimidated.

I know it gets said all the time, but practice makes perfect. I started FMQ on the second quilt I ever made. Don't worry about 'ruining' a quilt top you took ages to piece - your mistakes will be less noticeable than you think. One great resource for learning how to quilt is Craftsy. I highly recommend the class Free Motion Quilting: A Sampler, with Leah Day. Watching Leah quilt really helped me understand the techniques involved and what to do with my hands.
